Plum Crazy

A new pattern is coming soon.  I will introduce it at my fall retreat in Lawton, Michigan.  It's a simple quilt but very striking.

This next week I will be busy getting ready for the retreat and to go to the Art and Soul Retreat in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  This is something I have always wanted to do and I am so excited that I am getting the opportunity.  I am focusing on mixed media, watercolor and textile art in the sessions I will be taking.  I really can't wait!!!

I will be posting pictures here and on my Instagram account, 3 cherries on top.

Daily Change

Since the last week of June every day has been a surprise and filled with change.  We have moved from Michigan back to California and in that span of time and so much has taken place in between.

The movers were three days late coming in MI and took two days longer than they were suppose to which turned all of our well laid plans upside down and in a tailspin.  This move did not go smoothly or easily and I can say it feels good to have it behind us.  We are still unpacking boxes and trying to decide where everything should go and what we need to let go of.

My California quilt retreat was a great success.  It is always good to return to St. Francis and spend time with such dear friends and meeting new friends each year. Planning for the fall retreat in Michigan has begun in earnest and already looking forward to being there and seeing good friends and catching up with everyone.

Our children had a surprise welcome back to California party for us on Saturday.  It was wonderful to see everyone and to be able to have both children together.  The best part of being back in CA for us is being able to be closer to them.  What joy!

May the changes that are coming your way be welcome ones and bring new joys and delights to your days.

Blessings,
Dee

New Fabric

Scrolling through some of the artists I follow and saw these two lines of fabric that are new and I thought you might like to see the fabric I am falling in love with.

Each has started me dreaming of what I might create from them.  What do you think?

Have a wonderful creative day!

Something New

It is time for another new beginning brought on by our move back west.  Today with help from a friend I started a new Instagram account to share my art, quilts and a variety of future art endeavors.  I called it 3cherriesontop.  When my daughter was young and we would go out for dinner we would sometimes allow her a special treat of 7up.  She would ask if it was a special dinner and if we said yes she would ask the waitress for a "7up coke with three cherries on top, please".  I hope as I start this next adventure it will be special and my three cherries on top, please.

Above is my profile picture and I hope you will take the time to check it out and maybe even follow me.  I'm just getting started so there isn't much there yet but just you wait and see...

Fun Stripes

Just  finished a top for the July Quilt Retreat.  I still need to find borders and a backing but still trying to decide if I want to go more traditional or have a bit of fun with it.

I've been also spending time getting the house in order to put it on the market. I sure am going to miss having all the space I have now in my quilting room, but very excited to be back closer to my children.  Moving has always been bittersweet for me.  I hate leaving friends and the work and activities I am involved with and there will be many from here.  I do look forward to new friends and activities as well.

Keep Quilting and enjoying the Spring weather!

Blessings,
Dee

Screeching Halt or Speeding Up

Again, it has been a while since I have posted.  I think I am just going to accept that at this point I will post as I can and have inspiration.

I do want to promise that I will have new tutorials and projects coming in the next few weeks.

A few weeks ago we learned that we will be moving.  Therefore, for a time certain things will come to a screeching halt and getting a house ready to put on the market, finding a new home to live in and moving across the country have sped things up a bit for us.

I have found time for a few quilty things lately.  Below you can see a couple projects in progress.

Enjoy these spring days and find time for the things you love.

Progress

The last few years I have been choosing a word for the year and trying to set goals that compliment it.
This years word is progress.  I need to make progress in my quilting life.  There are too many unfinished projects in my stash, too many designs I need to make into patterns floating around in my head, too many unused pieces of fabric in my stash that should be used in something and the list goes on.  Then there is my new and continuing interest in textile art and art in general that I want to make progress in by taking classes and just doing it.

I would also like to make progress in my spiritual life and a devotion in 1 Timothy helped me find my word for this year.  It came from chapter 4 verse 15 which says, "Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress."  It was specifically about sharing the Gospel with others but it holds so very true in all areas of life.

As many of you who know me, know I struggle a bit with putting myself out there and sharing my creative work for all to see and critique.  I have made progress as of January 4 (was my father's birthday) with my classroom debut on The Quilt Show.  I was so nervous when we filmed it and as I watched it I saw things I didn't like and that I should have said and ways to improve upon it.  I am working on letting it go because there isn't much I can do about that now.  I am so grateful to Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims for allowing me that opportunity.  If you are interested in seeing it you can go to thequiltshow.com and click on the Learn button at the top of the page and then click on classroom and you will find it.  Writing this down too is progress for me.

May this year be for each of you a year of beginnings, joy and progress in the things you want to accomplish.

Blessings,
Dee
